  59. Album of Original Art Deco Jewelry Designs by an American Firm

  60. Jewelry: Letzeiser & Company, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Letzeiser & Company, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma: Jewelry Design Album; Original Drawings & Photographs, 1935-1940 [Cover title label]. Oklahoma City, ca. 1935-40. A unique album of the jewelry produced by the firm of Letzeiser & Company, consisting of 46 sheets of tan file folder paper, each with numerous mounted original drawings and photographs. There are approximately 265 detailed drawings and some 150 photos of fine art deco period jewelry, mostly from the late 1930s, but some dated in the late 1920s and several dated 1940 as well. Quite a number of them are dated by hand. Many of the drawings are hand colored. Some are on paper imprinted "This design is the property of Letzeiser & Company. We reserve the right to estimate thereon." Some have handwritten stock numbers and/or notations. Rings are most prominent, while brooches and other pieces of jewelry are also shown. While there are many class rings and the like, there are quite a number of examples of fine jewelry intended for the general public. 4to, cover is one of the pages of the album with drawings and photos affixed and with a title label which at some point was created for the album; recent binding ribbon. A few drawings missing and a few extra loosely inserted; very good condition. Very rare.    $3,500.00
A magnificent collection of art deco jewelry designs by an American company. The only reference we can find on Letzeiser & Company is in Rainwater's "American Jewelry Manufacturers," where they are listed as being in Oklahoma City, with the dates of 1922 & 1931 and where they are noted as being "manufacturers of class rings, pins, medals and fraternity jewelry." In addition, a search of the web finds that Letzeiser began producing a medal in 1932 honoring the senior with the most outstanding academic achievements at the Oklahoma City University, a tradition that was brought back to life in the 1990s honoring Alexander Letzeiser, the original owner of the firm by the firm's successors, Midwest Jewelers. Letzeiser & Company became Midwest Jewelers in 1935.

  64. An Album of Original Drawings
of Designs for Jewelry, Viennese, 1860s-1890s

  65. Jewelry – Viennese: An Album of Original Drawing Designs of Jewelry, Viennese, 1860s-1890s. This album is the record of a Viennese firm, possibly all the same designer's, but definitely from the same firm. Clues lead us to believe that the firm is Josef Hoffstatter Juwelier, K.K. Hof Juwelier (Crown Jewelers). While little information seems to have been written on this firm, we have found a record of them in a reference work on jewelry of the period (Marquardt, Schmuck... 1850-1895) and it is noted that in ca. 1900 they created jewelry for Olbrich from his designs. Ca. Beginning in the 1860s and going through to the 1890s. There are specific dates recorded, including 1887, 1889, 1891, 1894 and 1894, but the first part of the album is clearly earlier. Many of the early designs are in the Egyptian taste of the 1870s. Newspaper clippings that are affixed to some of the pages show examples of jewelry exhibited at the 1867 Paris Exposition and there is a page from the 1874 issue of Le Bijou. Some customers are named. The ones we can read include Mr. H. Wakerow, Vienna, A.H. Halbmayr, and Kramer. Many include Barons and Baronesses. With thousands of original designs drawn onto paper and then affixed to the album pages. Along with these designs are some excerpts from period magazines showing designs, probably for inspiration. The album itself measures 9 1/2 x 15 and contains 246 pages, each totally covered with designs, mostly fairly small, a few larger, but all clear and complete. Only one board remains, covered fully in leather, but it is now detached and worn. The pages are in very good condition as they are of fine quality paper. All of the drawings are in excellent condition; only two small examples have been excised.    $6,000.00
  66. Jewelry Designs: Collection of Original French Jewelry Designs. Collection of over 100 original drawings of French designs for jewelry, some apparently by the same hand or for the same company. Mostly art nouveau era jewelry, some in the art deco style. Designs from one-inch square or smaller to 3 x 5 inches or even larger. A few clues based upon the versos of the paper on which the designs are drawn, including one on the stationery of the company of Paul & Maurice Leclerc, Bijoutiers-Graveurs, Paris and one with embossed stamp of "BL" in a shamrock design. Also with four original photos and three plates, one from a Guerinet publication dated 1908. Most of the designs appear to be ca. 1900.    The collection: $250.00
  67. Jewelry Findings: [Kollmar & Jourdan AG, Pforzheim]? A trade catalogue of jewelry findings, undated, but ca. 1900, with 18 photographic plates of a sample book affixed to thick stock in an album; album leaves hinged with cloth. Stamps on the front endpaper and verso of front flyleaf indicate it was either owned by or from the house of the jewelry manufacturers Kollmar & Jourdan AG of Pforzheim. On these 18 photographs are a total of 1,889 findings for brooches, clasps, pendants, bracelets and more; they are through numbered from 42718 to 44607. Blank album leaves follow the 18 plates. Many of the items are in the arts and crafts style. One piece is engraved "Good Luck," in English, suggesting perhaps that this could have been taken from an English or American manufacturer's catalogue and was used as reference for Kollmar & Jourdan, but also likely is that it was Kollmar & Jourdan's own product line and some of the items were exported for use in America. Regardless, it is a fine example of a manufacturer's designs for turn of the century jewelry findings. Rare.    $650.00
  68. Jewelry Findings: Rhode Island Stamping Company, Providence. Rhode Island Stamping Company, Providence, R.I., Manufacturers of Metal Stampings and Jewelers Findings.
